After rebuilding geeqie WITHOUT the fix-fullscreen.patch
(https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/trunk/fix-fullscreen.patch?h=packages/geeqie)
it goes to fullscreen in all of these VMs.

geeqie-1.2.3-1 - same bug.

In XFCE it can go fullscreen, but then it stops reacting to mouse. Removing fix-fullscreen.patch fixes this.

It seems that Debian used some "fullscreen patch" (the same one?) and reverted it due to similar issues:

Nevermind, without fix-fullscreen mouse indeed works, but now the fullscreen window follows me on every virtual desktop until I close it.

BTW, I can get the same result *with* patch by going to "prefs/windows" and switching "placement" to "active screen", maybe this would work for OP on OpenBox too.

Tested with current version from arch extra repository (geeqie-1.4-4) and openbox. Issue does not appear.
Can anyone confirm?

Yes, geeqie 1.4-4 works well, with no issue.
