Description:

Upgrading to alsa-lib and alsa-plugins 1.1.0-1 breaks the ability to play Youtube videos (in Firefox and Google Chrome), as well as streaming Netflix (Google-Chrome). Downgrading to verson 1.0.29-1 (and 1.0.29-2, respectively) fixes the issue, hence the problem seeming to lie with the currently packaged 1.1.0 alsa versions.

Additional info:

affected package version(s) alsa-lib-1.1.0-1 i686, alsa-plugins-1.1.0-1 i686

Steps to reproduce: In my case upgrading to 1.1.0-1 (through a normal pacman -Syu) broke the playing of videos and downgrading to the previous version fixed the issue.

Reason for closing:  Works for me
Additional comments about closing:  This issue is for a long outdated version of alsa-lib/alsa-plugins.

A simple reboot also fixes the issue. Flagging this during the upgrade might be good, but otherwise there may be no further action necessary.

Using Pulse? I could easily see Pulse needing restarted for something like this.

Yes, I have pulseaudio installed. I had installed alsa only because I needed Skype, maybe a month ago.

To be clear, after downgrading nothing needed restarting, but after upgrading again it did. If it has something to do with pulse then it's still specific to alsa 1.1.0.

Sounds like an upstream issue to me. Please send your information to the alsa maillist.
