Description:

Since my upgrade yesterday of the Linux kernel to version 4.2.4 my screen is almost completely black when starting my laptop. The laptop is an IBM ThinkPad T60, and I am using KDE 5. The graphics card is an ATI.

The BIOS screens prior to displaying KDM are at a normal brightness, but as soon as KDM starts the display brightness drops to an unusable minimum level.

For the time being I have added the nomodeset option to the grub.cfg file, and this fixes the problem. However, the graphics performance has suffered as a result.

Please look into why this is happening as soon as you can.

Thank You

Additional info:
* package version(s)

Linux kernel 4.2.4

* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:

Upgrade the Linux kernel to version 4.2.4 and reboot.

What do you really expect us to do? Is this a packaging problem?

I would like to know why KMS stopped working after the upgrade to version 4.2.4 of the Linux kernel. It worked fine before, and I did not need to add the nomodeset parameter to the grub.cfg, which has degraded video performance.

I do not know if it is a problem related to packaging, or if it is due to an upstream change. I opened the bug hoping that this would be determined via some research.
