From journalctl I see:

Oct 02 09:24:33 <hostname> kernel: vboxdrv: ffffffffa0891020 VMMR0.r0
Oct 02 09:24:33 <hostname> kernel: vboxdrv: ffffffffa098b020 VBoxDDR0.r0
Oct 02 09:24:33 <hostname> kernel: vboxdrv: ffffffffa003f020 VBoxDD2R0.r0
Oct 02 09:24:34 <hostname> kernel: VBoxNetFlt: attached to 'eth1' / <MAC 1>
Oct 02 09:24:34 <hostname> kernel: VBoxNetFlt: attached to 'eth0' / <MAC 0>

After confirming the error message box:

Oct 02 09:25:11 <hostname> kernel: vboxnetflt: 0 out of 0 packets were not sent (directed to host)
Oct 02 09:25:11 <hostname> kernel: vboxnetflt: 0 out of 128 packets were not sent (directed to host)

It looks like the problem is caused when the sound system fails. This has already been reported here:
https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=69722

Disabling Audio for the virtual machine allows to start it again.
