prelink currently does not build, does not run, is not maintained and is dropped by other distributions (Fedora). See  FS#46155  for more information.

wine can build without prelink, but it's unclear if this will cause any problems, or not.

How about having a two-pronged approach to this, both removing the prelink dependency from wine and also trying to patch prelink to work again?
If development of prelink should pick up, we could always re-introduce the dependency.

I'm planning to move prelink to AUR. Any protests?

I've rebuilt wine without prelink (wine 1.7.51-2). Let's see if anyone notices breakage.

There was breakages. Could incorporating the (otherwise broken) prelink package directly into the wine build process be an option?
