I find pacdiff a very useful tool. Not only for doing merges, but mostly for locating .pac* files.
Since the default DIFFPROG (vim) is not part of a base install, I have to provide a dummy DIFFPROG=true to use it in this way on a machine that doesn't have vim installed.

Can we do the check if DIFFPROG exists only when it's needed? (When selecting (V)iew.) That way, it's still usable for locating and overwriting .pac* files, which is my (and probably others') primary use case.

Additional comments about closing:  git commit 34bbe4cf results in DIFFPROG not being check for pacdiff -o.

So, this is about pacdiff, not pacman. I should've mentioned that more clearly, sorry!
