The last upgrade (4.39-1 -> 4.40-1) produced /etc/fonts/conf.d/75-yes-terminus.conf.pacnew - rather useless for a symlink, but see for more background.

/var/lib/pacman/local/terminus-font-4.40-1/files contains this:
etc/fonts/conf.d/75-yes-terminus.conf (null)
(or run pacman -Qii terminus-font | grep MODIFIED)
... and therefore the .pacnew will reappear on every update.

No other font package (at least of those in /var/abs) has a backup array, so please remove it from the PKGBUILD.
Unfortunately this will lead to another /etc/fonts/conf.d/75-yes-terminus.conf.pacsave but it's the only sane solution in the long run.
This task depends upon

Thanks for reporting. The terminus font package is old and slightly unusual.

The updated package will appear in [community] shortly.
