Details

Description: After upgrading to 5.0.0-1 the application complained about an outdated extension pack and offers to download & intall the current extension pack. After accepting the license, the installation fails.

Additional info:
| The installer failed with exit code 127: Error creating textual authentication agent: Error opening current controlling terminal for the process (`/dev/tty'): No such device or address.
|
| Errorcode:
| NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
| Component:
| ExtPackManagerWrap
| Interface:
| IExtPackManager {edba9d10-45d8-b440-1712-46ac0c9bc4c5}

It seems that the application is not able to establish a connection to kdesu (in a KDE envirnonment); package kde-cli-tools was already installed.

Steps to reproduce: Try to install as a user i.e. the "Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.0.vbox-extpack" and you will run into that problem. A "VBoxManage extpack install VirtualBox/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.0.vbox-extpack" on a root-console did it finally for me.

I get the same error after the latest update. Not sure what causes it. "VBoxManage extpack install VirtualBox/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.0.vbox-extpack" on a root-console <<< Did not work for me. I only get the error when trying to load Windows VM's, not Linux ones.

Sorry for some kind of confusion of the given command. On a root console you have to switch to the folder where you downloaded the extpack and run the command from there, or give the full path that point to that folder. In my case the extpack has been stored in ~/.config/VirtualBox and accidently I mentioned only the "VirtualBox"-part of it.

Just try "VBoxManage extpack install Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.0.0.vbox-extpack" as root out of the folder you stored the extpack, and it should work.

I understood fine. I'm able to finish the installation, but the error is still there and I can't start the VM.

I tested installation from GUI with 5.0.2 under gnome (not KDE). That just works.
