Description:

Printing is not functional because no printer drivers are recognized.

I don't think this has anything to do with cups, because I was able to print a document on July 17th, and the cups latest upgrade in the arch repositories were in June.

After this system upgrade, I could not print anymore. I tried to remove my printer and add it again via the cups web interface, to no avail.

network smb
direct hpfax

But then running:

# lpinfo -m
Success

No drivers are shown. Yet I do have installed:

# pacman -Q cups libcups hplip ghostscript gsfonts gutenprint
cups 2.0.3-1

hplip 3.15.6-1
ghostscript 9.16-1

gutenprint 5.2.10-1

And the cupsd is running:

# systemctl status org.cups.cupsd.service
● org.cups.cupsd.service - CUPS Scheduler
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/org.cups.cupsd.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)

Can you print a test page from the CUPS interface? Have you gone through hp-setup? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CUPS#HP_Printer
Comment by Luis Henrique Mello (lmello) - Saturday, 25 July 2015, 21:59 GMT
No, not even that. hp-setup also fails to set up a printer.

using the hplip command-line interface I get this:

# hp-setup -i

  • Field changed: Summary (No printer drivers are recognized by lpinfo -m / Printing is not functional → [hplip] No printer drivers are recognized by lpinfo -m / Printing is not functional)
  • Field changed: Status (Unconfirmed → Assigned)
  • Task assigned to Andreas Radke (AndyRTR)
Alright, let's try the hplip maintainer. Andreas, please reassign if I'm wrong.

Looks like a local setup problem. HPlip should easily support it. For fallback use hpijs driver.

http://www.openprinting.org/printer/HP/HP-PSC_1500

If still presend please use cups debug logs to get useful info.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1551816 - looks similar. Check your local cups setup and conf files.
