First of all, I'm sorry I flagged wpa_supplicant 2.3 as out
of date. Only later I discovered it has been reverted from
2.4 to 2.3.

The setup is to first configure the wifi interface in 4addr mode [1], add the interface to the bridge, and then use the -b option to wpa_supplicant. I assume this is fixed now we ship wpa_supplicant 2.5?
