Thanks! I remember that there was a notice on website about capabilities but didn't think that new dnsmasq (or dnsmasq with new kernel) require it.

Appears that it should be fixed in more recent dnsmasq release...

http://thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/CHANGELOG -- bottom of the changelog talks about no longer using capabilities.

Fixed in dnsmasq-2.31-1. Close this bug.

Re-opened by Jens Adams:

The new version does not need the capability module to start, but then it cannot run as the configured user (default: nobody). A install message might be a good idea.

here's a patch for the example config that should clear it up.

second try with some improvements
Comment by Roman Kyrylych (Romashka) - Thursday, 09 November 2006, 00:19 GMT
First, dnsmasq packaeg is outdated. There is 2.35 already.
Second, is this valid with the latest dnsmasq-2.33 (and if change $pkgver to 2.35)?
Comment by Roman Kyrylych (Romashka) - Monday, 20 November 2006, 13:28 GMT
Status as of dnsmasq-2.35-1 ?
Comment by Jonathan Frazier (wide-eye) - Monday, 20 November 2006, 23:28 GMT
still true with 2.35-1, runs as root without capability
Comment by Paul Mattal (paul) - Tuesday, 21 November 2006, 03:25 GMT
I've added this stuff to 2.35-2. Can someone confirm and we'll close this bug?
Comment by Roman Kyrylych (Romashka) - Friday, 24 November 2006, 12:58 GMT
I confirm. Works OK for me.
