It would be nice to add $Id CVS tags to all major files in /etc like for example in FreeBSD or OpenBSD. It definetly help identify which version/revision a particular file is by just looking at it. I don't think it's that much hassle to add that, but the benefits of it can be great
It could be in the form of:
$Arch: <filename>,v <revision> <timestamp> <developer> Exp $
