It's not that it was broken, it's that it hadn't been ported to KF5 yet. So IMHO this is a new feature rather than a bugfix. Besides, the patch is only in trunk, so it may not even apply to future 5.3 releases if some commit conflicts with it (it currently does with some offset).
So -1 from me to backport this. Felix, WDYT?

Given the size and files touched of the patch, I would -1 to backport ourselves, either. We could do it when (if) upstream decided to cherry-pick it into 5.3 branch.
