basically, some people get an unbootable system after upgrading the kernel. once this happens, they have no way of getting back into the system without a boot rescue CD. this shouldn't be necessary.

i think arch should follow what other distros have done, like fedora, debian, etc. they have seperate packages for each kernel upgrade. and they symlink to the latest kernel. if a new kernel happens to mess up, you can always rollback to a previous working kernel and try to see why the new kernel didn't work.

solution don't clean up your cache or save the old kernel before upgrade
kernel26 will stay as one package.
