For me sometimes works properly and sometimes does not run at all, when I try to launch it from another terminal.
I attach the full error message that I get.
It's an outdated package though, guake-git in AUR works fine.

Edit: My fault, guake-git has the same behavior.

I can confirm that this happens. I found a workaround from here:

@Ashik that work-around does not work, I already have "Enable popup notifications on startup" unticked.

The errors I see reported match those reported by Ilias95 above.

It did work for me. And I'm running an up-to-date system. It could be due to the python libraries I have on my machine.

I can confirm too, I found another workaround: Try to untick "Appear on mouse display"

@osmank3 That work-around works for me too.
Comment by Ilias Stamatis (Ilias95) - Friday, 05 June 2015, 22:03 GMT
Neither of these workarounds work in my case.
As I described above, it seems completely random whether guake will launch or not.

And ... the work-around reported by osmank3 has stopped working.

Downgrading to python2 2.7.9-1 seems to fix this.
Comment by Ilias Stamatis (Ilias95) - Saturday, 06 June 2015, 11:49 GMT
Maybe it will be fixed upstream: https://github.com/Guake/guake/issues/558
Comment by leesei (leesei) - Wednesday, 10 June 2015, 17:15 GMT
This is a separate issue from #588 (fail to register Hotkey).
I fixed the issue by enabling "pop up notification" according to the link posted by @aashiks.
Thanks.

Please test guake 0.7.2-1.

It seems to work flawlessly.
I still get the following message every time I start it:

INFO:guake.guake_app:Logging configuration complete
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/guake/guake_app.py:1614: GtkWarning: gtk_box_pack: assertion 'child->parent == NULL' failed
self.mainframe.pack_start(self.mainframe, expand=True, fill=True, padding=0)

but works fine on every launch, without crashing.
