As this project seems to be updated in 2011 for the last time, I have no interest in starting code patching to keep its functionality. If there will be noone heavily interested in this package within the current TU team, I'll be moving dvd-slideshow to AUR shortly.

Well, any alternatives to this package?

I may be able to provide a patch that fixes the issue with current ffmpeg (found it somewhere in the web), but regarding the sox issue I am lost...
Downgrading sox and set it to ignore list isn't really an option as it sooner or later will break things...

BTW, moving it to AUR still keeps it nonfuctional...

Can photofilmstrip moved from AUR to community instead, it seems to be a good alternative to dvd-slideshow?

I guess kdenlive package can produce similar results, although it might be a bit more difficult to use for one time users. Moving dvd-slideshow to AUR will not fix the reported issue, but others interested in this particular piece of software might jump in and get it working. photofimlstrip was also updated 2 years ago for the last time and as per the AUR page, there are also problems with it. I will not be moving it to [community] due to this.
