Currently, the ranger package does not include a ranger.desktop file.
Adding this would enable users to open a new ranger window directly instead of first having to open a terminal.
It would also integrate better with DEs and could be used like alternatives (dolphin, nautilus, ...)
I attached the ranger.desktop file I created and use.

Have you talked with upstream about including this in their sources?
