When exiting the MUA mutt, an annoying and useless log message is sent to syslog: DIGEST-MD5 common mech free. The message appears in the shared library /usr/lib/sasl2/libdigestmd5.so beloging to the libsasl package, and dates back to at least year 2011. Additional info: extra/mutt 1.5.23-2 core/libsasl 2.1.26-7 Steps to reproduce: ¹) Configure mutt so that it logs into an IMAP account using TLS ²) Exit mutt ³) Find the message “DIGEST-MD5 common mech free” in syslog Additionally: $ grep 'common mech free' /usr/lib/sasl2/*.so Binary file /usr/lib/sasl2/libdigestmd5.so matches |
This task depends upon
I will not remove this from Cyrus SASL, as debug logging is the only way to debug issues with SASL when not running interactive, for example when running a mailserver.
