Details

Description:
After installing gpsdrive simply does not work. I expect the program to be usable without additional configuration, but gpsdrive refuses to start after installation.

Additional info:
* package version 2.11-25
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
pacman -S gpsdrive
[ user@critiquark ~ ] gpsdrive
Can't connect to gps daemon on 127.0.0.1:2947, disabling GPS support!
DB: Error while opening /usr/share/gpsdrive/geoinfo.db: unable to open database file
[ user@critiquark ~ ] ls /usr/share/gpsdrive/
map_koord.txt mapnik maps osm-template.xml pixmaps
[[ user@critiquark ~ ] sudo touch /usr/share/gpsdrive/geoinfo.db
[ user@critiquark ~ ] gpsdrive
Can't connect to gps daemon on 127.0.0.1:2947, disabling GPS support!
DB: Using waypoints from local user file.
DB: SQLite error: no such table: poi_type
Read 0 POI-Types from geoinfo.db

Yes, I read the wiki page, which provides lengthy instruftions for some complicated setup which requires imports of OSM maps via osm2pg. How does it solve this problem?

I understand that gpsdrive is painful, but If you remove file you touched (it is bad idea to give empty file instead of expected database) and add

geoinfofile = /usr/share/icons/map-icons/geoinfo.db
mapnik_font_path = /usr/share/fonts/TTF

into ~/.gpsdrive/gpsdriverc gpsdrive at least starts. You can try to push upstream developers why "make install" does not create working installation.
