Here is what I encountered:
When upgrading to the newest dbus version (dbus-061.2) there is a problem with one of the libraries. Gnome heavily depends on the file:
libdbus-1.so.1
but after the upgrade the file is missing!
Here is a solution:
as root:
cd /usr/lib
cp libdbus-1.so.2 libdbus-1.so.2.bkup to back up the file in case something goes wrong
mv libdbus-1.so.2 libdbus-1.so.1
exit
and that's it! We are essentially renaming the file to the one Gnome requires.
It works fine for me.

Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  All packages should be updated by now. File a bug when you find a package that still references libdbus-1.so.1.

this isn't a solution, this is a workaround.

Re-opened by Szymon:

I have updated through pacman my whole gnome package and still the problem persists. Care to post a working workaround that is more 'official'?

make sure your mirrors are the same for extra and current, and we haven't got a better workaround. expect update !

My mirrors for extra and current are in the 'stock pacman.d/extra and current' file supplied when installing pacman. I even added the 'community' repository in hopes of obtaining a more recent version. Nonetheless my workaround is the best that I could do at this moment.

Please put ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/ as your arch mirror in /etc/pacman.conf and try to update. I guess your pacman configuration directories point to some dead or outdated mirrors.
