I believe that the mplayer dependency should be changed, as smplayer seems to be able to run with mpv only (http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/en/mpv), to either an optional one or something else to satisfies "mplayer OR mpv".

Workaround is : [code]pacman -S smplayer --assume-installed mplayer[/code]

I would consider changing the dependencies if pacman supported alternative deps ("mplayer OR mpv" as you mentioned), but it doesn't.

I also don't want to list both as optional because then smplayer wouldn't work out of the box.

Changelog of smplayer 16.6.0 says that it now defaults to mpv if it's available. Consider replacing mplayer with mpv.
