Details1) the doc of gdm (http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/docs/2.14/configuration.html)
say that gdm can read the configuration in <etc>/gdm/custon.conf "if you want to change configuration by hand, edit the <etc>/gdm/custom.conf file and make sure the keyname=value pair you want is included in the appropriate section" but I find that the gdm(2.14.0-1) in archlinux can't read the configuration in custom.conf. And when you run "sudo gdmsetup". It edit the gdm.conf , not the custom.conf. 2)the PKGBUILD in abs have this line install -m444 ${startdir}/defaults.conf ${startdir}/pkg/opt/gnome/share/gdm/ but i could not find the defaults.conf in /opt/gnome/share/gdm |

[arjan@alpha ~]$ pacman -Q gdm
gdm 2.14.0-1
and it works for me
my best guess is that you updated, and the gdm.conf wasn't moved as planned.
Now defaults.conf is found. But custom.conf still don't work:(
try reinstalling gdm ?
before i reinstall gdm. There are two file in /opt/gnome/etc/gdm/
custom.conf and gdm.conf
after reinstall, there is only one file custom.conf. And everything works well.
I really don't know why there is a gdm.conf before reinstall. :)
thanks very much!
