Since last rng-tools update (5-2), the systemd service timeouts at stopping. It seems rngd ignores SIGTERM and only when systemd timeouts and sends SIGKILL the service gets stopped. This was not an issue when starting rngd as Type=simple, as before 5-2. The easy fix would be reverting that change, or alternatively figure out why rngd ignores SIGTERM and use the proper signal. Steps to reproduce: Start and stop rngd 5-2 service. The stop will block for 90s until systemd timeouts and sends SIGKILL. |

I did a little digging and found this gkernel bug-report for rng-tools:

Attached to the bug-report (above) is a patch that causes rngd to properly respond to SIGTERM when running as a daemon.
Compiled it up and tested. It works for me.
