The gnome-vfs mailing list explains quite well the problem.
The basic problem is you end up with far too many connections, making gnome-vfs using about 130 Megs of ram after which it locks.
I had to restart my gnome-vfs every 40 seconds or so. This patch it just stays up at about 6 or 7 megs of ram. It really works quite well.

thx
