Details

Description: Compiling OpenPilot I get this error with the community package but not with gcc-arm-none-eabi-bin. I didn't get the error with 4.9.2-3 from memory. The problem could be any of the associated packages also (binutils or newlib).

What should I try to isolate the problem?

/usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/4.9.2/../../../../arm-none-eabi/bin/ld: error: /home/james/builds/openpilot-git/OpenPilot/build/bl_revolution/bl_revolution.bin.o: Conflicting CPU architectures 13/0
/usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/4.9.2/../../../../arm-none-eabi/bin/ld: failed to merge target specific data of file /home/james/builds/openpilot-git/OpenPilot/build/bl_revolution/bl_revolution.bin.o
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

Additional info:
* package version(s) 4.9.3-5

Steps to reproduce:
git clone git.openpilot.org/OpenPilot.git
or for smaller DL http://202.0.41.202/openpilot/OpenPilot-RELEASE-15.01.tar.gz

make bu_revolution

I just tested arm-none-eabi-binutils=2.24-2 from my cache and it worked fine so it is binutils issue.

(Note I still get the "Conflicting CPU architectures 13/0 error" which I remember now I always got but it's actually just a warning, although I don't get it with gcc-arm-none-eabi 4.9 but I think I did with 4.8)

Not sure, but this may be related https://answers.launchpad.net/gcc-arm-embedded/+question/253999

Maybe we need Terry's patch that he mentions near the end.

James, I see that commit has been merged to upstream binutils SHA1==9274e9de160a98d737bb2bd068c22d37ec66d98d I'll check if it fixes the issue.

James, the patch you pointed too indeed fixes OpenPilot build. I just pushed arm-none-eabi-binutils-2.25-2 to [community-testing]. Please install proposed version and make sure it does not cause any regressions.

Thanks for the report.

Thanks Anatol, that fixes it. I haven't actually tried that specific piece of firmware where the error was occurring as that is only a bootloader upgrader that very rarely gets used (I haven't ever) but I have tested some of the other firmware made using the updated binutils and they seems to work fine.
