DetailsWouldn't it be better to have '!' instead of 'x' in the encrypted password field for all locked accounts? More consistent and properly documented.
I.e.: bin:!:14871:::::: Not: bin:x:14871:::::: Quote from shadow(5): If the password field contains some string that is not a valid result of crypt(3), for instance ! or *, the user will not be able to use a unix password to log in (but the user may log in the system by other means). |

Additional comments about closing: Nothing to fix. An 'x' is as good as a '*' is as good as a '!', as described by the documentation.

The only shadow users that have 'x' as their encrypted password is the default ones included from this package. All other users have '!' as their encrypted password if not set. Consistency would be great.
