Description:
After upgrading to 3.18.2 on my Dell Precision m4600 laptop with Intel wifi (PCI details below), I noticed this in the journal on reboot (it may have been there before, wasn't looking for it): Jan 16 07:42:57 grimm kernel: iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-6000-6.ucode failed with error -2 Jan 16 07:42:57 grimm kernel: iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-6000-5.ucode failed with error -2 After Googling around a bit, it appears this kernel setting is deprecated and I find many other distros setting it to 'n' now: https://lists.launchpad.net/kernel-packages/msg92946.html http://www.spinics.net/lists/hotplug/msg05759.html http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/linux/kernel/1760207 https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/8/6/317 https://lkml.org/lkml/2013/7/9/19 It appears it's somehow related to systemd-udev changes, however I freely admit I'm not a pro in this area by any stretch of the imagination. Perhaps y'all can understand this better than me, do we need to change this in the kernel configs for Arch? The comments I see in those links is that it's only needed 'y' for special firmwares, or a special helper.
