Description:Intel Haswell GT1 (Celeron and Pentium CPUs) iGPU hang encountered as detailed here https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83677 Hangs typically experienced under high GPU load or when using VAAPI for GPU hardware acceleration during HD video playback. Freezing, frame drops and skips encountered during playback using VAAPI enabled apps such as XBMC.

Additional info:
* package version(s) - LTS or standard linux kernel affected by this bug when using an Intel Haswell Celeron or Pentium iGPU.

Please see gpu_hang_fix.patch posted here http://pastebin.com/yRFwv86n

The patch, developed by Intel, works once applied to the current 3.17 Arch Linux Kernel from the ABS.

Not sure when Intel will push this patch to the upstream kernel but at least they have now identified and fixed the bug causing the gpu hanging.
Have not posted this sort of thing before so hope this is the right place, apologies if this is wrong, just want to help out other Arch users with similar issues with these Haswell Celeron/Pentium iGPUs.

Not sure if this patch can be integrated into the current Arch linux kernel or if it is best to wait for it to be applied to the upstream kernel by Intel?

I don't see the patch being included in the rounds of 3.18.1, 3.17.7 or 3.14.17 stable RCs. It's now a case of whether you'd need any other patches to go with it (reading the comments, I don't think so) and whether the developers want to incorporate it in now.
