Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  It's not a bug in GIMP or is caused by the missing dependency. So I will close this. Please open a new bug for GTK/cairo if you want to report this issue.

It's not missing, it's just currently optional. Does installing webkitgtk2 fix it?
Comment by Piotr Husiatyński (Husio) - Monday, 15 December 2014, 16:14 GMT
I have installed gimp and program is crashing. No additional information about optional (but required) dependencies is displayed. Isn't that bug?
Comment by Doug Newgard (Scimmia) - Monday, 15 December 2014, 16:41 GMT
I didn't say it wasn't a bug. If it's listed as optional when it's really required, it is a bug. My question stands, though, does installing webkitgtk2 fix the crash?

No.

So webkitgtk2 being optional is correct and your issue lies somewhere else. Is your entire system up to date?

Running GIMP, I get:
GEGL-geglmodule.c-Message: Module '/usr/lib/gegl-0.2/ff-load.so' load error: /usr/lib/gegl-0.2/ff-load.so: undefined symbol: av_read_packet

But it runs fine. Your problem seems to be related to cairo.

Yes, I just made an upgrade and gimp is still crashing.

Maybe you are using an unsupported GTK theme, please try the standard Adwaita and try again. Does this help?
Comment by Piotr Husiatyński (Husio) - Tuesday, 16 December 2014, 10:27 GMT
Switching to Adwaita does not help. But changing the font does. I was using terminus, switching to something more common does help.

Then this was issue. This is nothing special to GIMP. There are some threads in the forum about some fonts which are not that good for GTK. For example the xfce4-panel crashed also if you are using russion fonts in chromium without ttf-droid or similar, doesn't remember which one it was exactly, just read it in the forum.

I will close this bug, because it's not a GIMP bug.
