What exact command have you used?

I used mpv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=*

I replaced the video id with * again lol

Did you install youtube-dl package and use option --ytdl=yes with mpv?
mpv now uses youtube-dl for viewing streaming video

ok so I installed youtube-dl

I still get the same warning and failure message with mpv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=*videoid
which is odd because before I was able to use mpv (when youtube-dl was not implemented in mpv) with the youtube link, I guess its maybe a recent change in mpv or something.

I used mpv --ytdl=yes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=*videoid
it works, but I still get the warning message about mpv being compiled against a different version of ffmpeg

I compiled the latest mpv release tarball, the warning is gone but the [ffmpeg] tls connection was non-properly terminated error still persists.

I don't see anything interesting there. Libquvi is unmaintained and I haven't found any YT video
that I couldn't get to play with "mpv --ytdl $url" so far.
