Description:

After upgrading to linux-3.17.4-1 and rebooting, kernel mode setting fails with an oops message and no graphical interface starts up. Booting into multi-user.target instead of graphical.target, I tried then to start gdm.service, but the screen went completely blank and the systemd journal showed another kernel oops. I was able to restore linux-3.17.2-1, and then a reboot let me start the system again.

Additional info:
* linux-3.17.4-1
...and just in case they matter...
* mesa-10.3.4-1
* mesa-dri-10.3.4-1

* Graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD 6870

Steps to reproduce:
1. Upgrade to linux-3.17.4-1
2. Reboot

On my laptop it happens when I have an external monitor plugged via HDMI, everything's good if not. I'm back on 3.17.2-1 right now as well.

sekret points out a (possibly) important detail: I'm seeing the problem on my desktop which drives two monitors from the graphics card, one by DVI-I and one by HDMI.
