Detailsafter upgrading my old laptop to the latest current of arch linux (new kernel, xorg etc), i lost all icons under gnome. The hicolor and gnome-icon-theme packages are installed and /opt/gnome/libexec/gnome-settings-daemon seems to be running too. However, gnomevfsdaemon and ALL applications that I launch, they seem to have problem with the newly created glibc locale. Check the screenshot attached and the terminal in it for info. i even reran the glibc generation locale script, to no avail. here is my rc.conf section:
LOCALE="en_US" HARDWARECLOCK="localtime" TIMEZONE=Canada/Pacific KEYMAP=us CONSOLEFONT= CONSOLEMAP= USECOLOR="yes" i tried en_US.utf8 too, to no avail. I don't understand why i don't have any icons on gnome anymore... help... |

A missing locale shouldn't generate these errors. Does your /etc/profile.d/xorg.sh scriptlet still exist? If not, I guess you hit the infamous pacman bug when upgrading to xorg7, where files get lost when moved between packages. There's a good chance your icons will work again after reinstalling xproto.

Wow, that was it! Reinstalling xproto fixed it. Thanks Jan!
