in fact mplayer seems unable to increase volume,

I can decrease volume but now when I restart mplayer the volume still remains at low position, that's why we can't hear sound,

where are the settings file for mplayer in order to reset the volume setting ?

because after this test I can't hear sound with mplayer

Ok I found the solution, if you want to increase volume you must use the "*" key, and not "0" key ( in keypad ),

I think your problem is related to a bad file configuration, you can try to erase the mplayer config file in ~/.mplayer

Thanks for the fast replay, my .mplayer/config file in the home directory is empty. In /etc/mplayer/input.conf both 0 and * is set to 1. My problem is not that i can hear no sound, my problem is that mplayer stops/pauses the playback when i change volume. Probably you sould open new task with "no volume increase possible".
