Details

Description:

Programs, that uses gvfs do not recognize pluggable media. For example thunar does not recognize USB memory-sticks, brasero does not see DVD-RW-drive.

But the media can be mounted directly via udisksctl.

I have an LXDE. Putting

exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session --sh-syntax lxsession -s LXDE -e LXDE

in .xinitrc worked for me.
