Description: Avahi package has an extremely low resolution icon in Gnome shell, which is unfortunate as it is very noticeable. I have this issue on multiple machines, and it absolutely detracts from the desktop experience.

I do not know why all other icons show high-res versions, and this package does not, though the disconcerting thing is that the avahi package provides 3 .desktop files, so there are three 'terrible' looking icons back to back in Gnome Shell.

I have added NoDisplay=true to the three .desktop files multiple times, though every avahi update overwrites the .desktop file and the icons return. And as a temporary fix I have hidden the icons away in a app-folder.

The other weird issue is that changing to different icon themes still results in a low quality icon.

The .desktop file is set to "Icon=network-wired", so maybe that icon is where the problem lies?

Solutions to this issue would be to somehow fix the icon quality OR perhaps we should by default turn off the Avahi icon (or three)... I personally have never once needed to launch the gui avahi programs. The daemon and service in the background seem to work just fine on their own.

I checked, and the highest resolution "network-wired" icon is 48x48 in most icon sets. However, the "network-wired-disconnected" is nearly identical, but has a 256x256 version. Perhaps we can switch the icon the that or something better by default in the .desktop file?

The .desktop files are provided by upstream, not by Arch. If you think they need changed, please contact upstream.

OK I will, but isn't it up to the distro if a specific .desktop is enabled or not? Because I have never seen avahi launchers on any other distro, even though it has always been installed

If they screw around with the .desktop files, sure. Arch stays as close to upstream as possible.

The last commit on the avahi git repo was from a year and a half ago. I think the project may be a bit unmaintained ATM. Which would explain lack of things like adequate icons...
