without gnome-desktop installed in my system baobab starts fine
but with an "empty" window that make the program non-usable

Probably not the correct fix, the real fix is https://git.gnome.org/browse/baobab/commit/?id=58a92a0de9504d5d09a7052016f030455d64ce6b, which is included in 3.14.0.

I see gnome 3.14.1 is already in [testing] and soon will be available in [extra]
