DetailsIt's just a fork of gnome-mplayer, and it looks like it's not planned to be developed anymore. See this feature request for gnome-mplayer:

When gnome-mplayer adds support for Caja (patch referenced in https://code.google.com/p/gnome-mplayer/issues/detail?id=685) then I will drop mate-mplayer from [community]. Until then I'd like to keep mate-mplayer in [community] since I know that MATE users are currently using it.

gnome-mplayer 1.0.9-2 adds caja extension, so I removed mate-mplayer from [community].
