The soname check currently in checkpkg doesn't work most (if not all) of the time. I already sent a patch in to fix it.

In this cas, the file tree of the old package is different to the new one. It's not hard to spot. A single checking tool having a bug is no excuse for missing it. It's nothing personal against Giovanni but against the many rebuilds I had to do the past few months because devs simply missed soname bumps...
