Details
I often do a 'pacman -Su' to see which packages to fetch
manually later on as my Arch system is currently on dialup.
This means I've got a lot of "starting full system upgrade"

Maybe add a flag to update DB but not actually do the upgrade,
just show updated packages. This is nice when running a server,
for instance, and you just want to see if certain programs are
available. Of course, IgnorePkg is available too.

pacman -Qu in pacman3 fixes this issue.
