Seeing as how Glitz is now in the repos, wouldn't it make sense to compile Cairo using the Glitz backend via --enable-glitz? Seeing as this would allow Cairo to do its thing using OpenGL, I'd think it might make GTK a bit speedier, not to mention adding potential for eyecandy for those who want it.

glitz is just a backend, gtk doesn't use it, it only adds extra required libraries to the dependency chain.
The reason for not including glitz support in cairo is because it's still a development snapshot. It used to be a dependency one day, but since it's not officially supported by the cairo devs, we won't include it.
