Summary and Info:

setting options=(!strip) in a PKGBUILD does not seem to have any effect. Setting !strip in /etc/makepkg.conf *does* seem to have an effect.

Additional comments about closing:  Unclear where this *doesnt* work, but it's in use and effective for several packages in the arch repos...

That option is used in the Arch glibc PKGBUILD and works fine.

This package includes prebuilt binaries which are already stripped. !strip can't possibly bring back those extra ELF sections.
