Description:

I'm using a Thinkpad T440s with EFI-only booting, using gummiboot. I recently upgraded the kernel from 3.15.1 to 3.15.5 and the system couldn't boot any more. I booted with a live USB system and rechecked all the gummiboot configuration (didn't see anything wrong there); and also tried to force re-installing the 3.15.5 kernel (it was installed correctly) but that didn't help. I've done more kernel updates in the past with the same config, just this one failed.

I'm using LVM on LUKS, btw, so the root partition is in an LVM partition which is inside an encrypted partition. Boot partition is unencrypted, which is where I keep all gummiboot setup and the kernel.

Steps to reproduce:

Upgrade kernel from 3.15.1 to 3.15.5.

That is probably fixed by linux-3.15.5-2, currently residing in [testing].
