DetailsMy configuration:
- xorg using intel driver 1.15.1 - 16:9 LCD display (Samsung) - LXDM - user with XFCE session Actions performed by the user: - login into XFCE session - change resolution to 1024x768 Effects: - system logs out after a couple of seconds, taking user back to login manager - impossible to login anymore After some investigation, I found that there was a Xorg crash happening every time a login was attempted (see attachment). Workaround: edit ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/displays.xml and replace resolution with 1900x1080 Expected behaviour: - resolution not accepted by Xorg with graceful error (not a crash) Section with crash (from attachment): [ 22.381] (II) intel(0): Allocated new frame buffer 1280x1024 stride 5120, tiled [ 22.445] (EE) [ 22.445] (EE) Backtrace: [ 22.445] (EE) 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x56) [0x58f186] [ 22.445] (EE) 1: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x192fc9) [0x592fc9] [ 22.445] (EE) 2: /usr/lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f498e5e5000+0xf4b0) [0x7f498e5f44b0] [ 22.445] (EE) 3: /usr/lib/libpixman-1.so.0 (0x7f498e12c000+0x93b4f) [0x7f498e1bfb4f] [ 22.445] (EE) 4: /usr/lib/libpixman-1.so.0 (0x7f498e12c000+0x93ca9) [0x7f498e1bfca9] [ 22.445] (EE) 5: /usr/lib/libpixman-1.so.0 (pixman_image_composite32+0x451) [0x7f498e1379a1] [ 22.445] (EE) 6: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libfb.so (fbComposite+0x208) [0x7f4988c96688] [ 22.445] (EE) 7: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7f4989302000+0x147609) [0x7f4989449609] [ 22.445] (EE) 8: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so (0x7f4989302000+0x144340) [0x7f4989446340] [ 22.445] (EE) 9: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x116554) [0x516554] [ 22.445] (EE) 10: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x10c404) [0x50c404] [ 22.445] (EE) 11: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x36b2f) [0x436b2f] [ 22.445] (EE) 12: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x3ad16) [0x43ad16] [ 22.445] (EE) 13: /usr/lib/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xf0) [0x7f498d250000] [ 22.445] (EE) 14: /usr/bin/X (0x400000+0x250fe) [0x4250fe] [ 22.445] (EE) [ 22.445] (EE) Segmentation fault at address 0x2d7c000 [ 22.445] (EE) Fatal server error: [ 22.445] (EE) Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault). Not sure where to put this, but since the crash is happening in xorg-server, let's try that.

This is probably fixed with new Xorg and updated Intel driver in testing. You may want to give it a try.
