Description:

Python2 does not expose distribution name. Python3 works though.
The distribution release name could also be changed to "rolling", as in "lsb_release -a".

Steps to reproduce:

$ python3
Python 3.4.1 (default, May 19 2014, 17:23:49)
[GCC 4.9.0 20140507 (prerelease)] on linux
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import platform
>>> platform.linux_distribution()
('arch', '', '')
>>>

$ python2
Python 2.7.7 (default, Jun 3 2014, 01:46:20)
[GCC 4.9.0 20140521 (prerelease)] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import platform
>>> platform.linux_distribution()
('', '', '')

It's an upstream issue, and they only fixed it for python 3.3+
