The update to perl 5.20 broke this package and programs that depend on it (notably see the AUR for shutter).

This doesn't make any sense. gtkimageview doesn't have any perl modules and doesn't link to a perl lib, how does it need to be rebuilt against perl 5.20?

We are talking about gtkimageview in community, right? Not gtkimageviewer in the AUR?

Edit, reading the comments on the AUR package, it's much more likely the problem is perl-gtk2-imageview, which is in the AUR. AUR packages are your responsibility.

And now someone has reported in the AUR comments that rebuilding some of the AUR perl packages, including the above mentioned perl-gtk2-imageview, has fixed the problem. Unless someone gives me a reason not to, I'm going to close this.
