When I run pd it just hangs here:

$ pd
priority 6 scheduling enabled.
priority 8 scheduling enabled.

I suspect it's only a gui issue, and probably the backend runs, because if I run pd-gui.tcl I get:

$ pd-gui.tcl
Error in startup script: can't find package pd_connect
while executing
"package require pd_connect"
(file "/usr/bin/pd-gui.tcl" line 26)

however pd_connect.tcl was installed:

$ pacman -Ql pd |grep pd_connect
pd /usr/lib/pd/tcl/pd_connect.tcl

Now,

$ which pd-gui.tcl
/usr/bin/pd-gui.tcl

but there's another file named like that installed by the package:

$ pacman -Ql pd |grep pd-gui.tcl
pd /usr/bin/pd-gui.tcl
pd /usr/lib/pd/tcl/pd-gui.tcl

and if I run /usr/lib/pd/tcl/pd-gui.tcl, the gui does indeed start but many parts of it are black, and I can't see patches (see attached screenshot).

I immagine this has something to do with pd looking for files in wrong places, but this is as far as I could get in tracking down the cause.

actually I was just impatient: pd eventually starts after about 2 minutes, though I get a lot of watchdog warnigns:

$ pd
priority 6 scheduling enabled.
priority 8 scheduling enabled.
watchdog: signaling pd...
watchdog: signaling pd...
watchdog: signaling pd...
watchdog: signaling pd...
[...]

those warnings stop once pd is started. Also I still have that annoying "black gui" problem, though I don't think it's related.

Also, I just installed pd-extended from AUR (0.43.4) and I have both problems with it too: it takes 2 minutes to start (with same wathchdog warnings) and backgrounds are black in the GUI, though in this version, when I open a patch, the background there is white.

So maybe I have some configuration that messes things up?

I solved the black background changing

*background: #000000

to

xterm*background: #000000

in ~/.Xdefaults

I've reported this on the pd-list, here:

http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2014-06/107080.html

speps if you think this is upstream (it could very well be) you can close this bug - which anyway I've done a messy job with, sorry :[
