Steps to reproduce:
1. pacman -Syu leading to upgrade of mesa and mesa-libgl
2. Either:
logout and back in
or reboot
3. Graphical user interface does not come back up.

Work-around:
Downgrade of mesa and mesa-libgl to 10.1.4-1 and set pacman to ignore both packages when upgrading.

I had the same exact issue with the xf86-video-vmware as well (same backtrace).

Can you fill a bug report at https://bugs.freedesktop.org and paste the link here ?

Do you have an account with freedesktop.org? It would save me having to create yet another bug-related account.

Edit: So the problem is not in Mesa?

Same issue here. Using an upstream xf86-video-vmware (4e378a730d2d2deffc915af2a3d013d2a994a1b0) does not resolve the issue.
Comment by IMBJR (IMBJR) - Thursday, 19 June 2014, 17:22 GMT
Yes, I've also tried that upstream version with no resolution.

Seems to be a yearly occurrence with the VMWare driver and mesa not playing nice.

Reported upstream here - https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80595

VMWare driver dev is stating this is likely how mesa is built. I did recompile against latest headers and the problem persist.

Recommend mesa package maintainer please look into and collaborate on upstream ticket. Unfortunately, I am not a very adept developer, and am even less familiar with video drivers.

FYI, there is now a fix for this in the upstream mesa tree.

This one? http://cgit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/?id=35cf3831d71770211f29da6608313dc1f6213d7b

Let's see if it goes into 10.2.3. Feel free to patch mesa yourself until that release, it's expected for the beginning of next week.
