Description:
x264 was split into x264 and x264-dev.

Was there an announcement to do that for more packages in general, I didn't find any on the mailing lists.

Can we use this opportunity to add .a files into -dev packages where a package is split? This would be the same as other popular distros do it and still keep the main package small.

Why was x264 split?

The reason can be found in the git logs:

- build and split out 10bit-depth version ( FS#33802 )
- split out development headers to avoid conflict between x264 and x264-10bit

This has nothing to do with doing "the same as other popular distros".

Edit: 1:142.20140311-4 changes this completely, anyway, there is no -dev package. The libs are just split out for each version, the headers are in the main package now.

As Scimmia wrote. After conversation on #archlinux-tu I rearranged split packages, so your request isn't valid anymore. Closing.
