It's not happening here, is it specific to one event? everything I tested worked fine with network stopped.
Maybe your xine binary has been compromised..?

In here, Disabling the network deamon in rc.conf, xine can not be started.

The question here is, do you want to run a desktop system without a localhost interface? alsmost all desktop applications do something with the localhost interface. Not having such an interface, but having a network stack loaded results in hangs and crashes all the time.
