(in short) I would think that the internal faad2 to be found within the mplayer code is better than the version that is "externally released". The internal faad2 is a later version. The internal faad2 has also been found to "play nice" with several files (notably the (which u might be interested in) 'Go Open' tv series to be found at www.legaltorrents.com).

If u "--enable-external-faad", these files will just not play. Don't ask me why though - u'll have to talk to the mplayer folks, or talk to some codec folks.

Pls use the internal faad2 code - get rid of the "--enable-external-faad" switch. I dont see any reason why not to.

ps. for the "Go Open" files, search for "Go_Open" on the www.legaltorrents.com main page, and u'll be able to see it.

Re-opened by Jeffrey Lim:

i second the proposal of using mplayer's internal faad2. i've been talking to the mplayer guys on linuxtag and they recommended it as well.
if somebody wants to reproduce problems with AAC sound driven through faad2, the best example is is this anime translated by shinsen subs:

http://shinsen.b33r.net/[Shinsen-Subs]_Ergo_Proxy_-_04_[H264_AAC][9EF51567].mkv.torrent

it is not yet licensed in any other country than japan, so it's legal to download it. be aware that this is a HD video that will not run with anything less than a 2.8ghz celeron d. :)
